Our Why
Our Scholars. That’s it. That’s our why. This fundraising event was started in 2020 by Solomon Dixon, who had the crazy idea to walk down Western Avenue. Starting in the Beverly neighborhood on 119th St. all the way to Howard St. Solomon, Kevin Gwin and a small group of others walked 24 miles nonstop all while raising money to make sure our scholars could have the support they needed to achieve their own crazy ideas. Because that's what it's all about anyways, crazy ideas! This event has grown year after year because people believed in this crazy idea and we continue to invest in our scholars because we believe in theirs. Our scholars come from all parts of the city and so we’re walking through all parts of the city. All 197 blocks of it.
Join Us
We hope to get your support during Pursue Unity and there is more than one way to do so. We greatly appreciate donations, which will be used to fund campus visits, send care packages, provide scholarships, and a plethora of other ways to support our scholars. We also invite you to register to walk, volunteer to help or just come out and support our walkers!
